This subject is not an easy one to present, but as Prayer Warriors we must hear, know, and practice it. The reason for the reluctance rests upon two fears: First, that of offending the majority who don't believe it really matters. And second, the fear of being labeled as judgmental or legalistic.

Unfortunately these fears are too often justified. satan and his cohorts have exploited and caused many in the church to look on any discussion of music [or TV, movies, reading material, etc..] as extremist and improper. Some of you, viewing this page may feel this way, but Prayer Warriors do not belong to just themselves; we are in the LORD's Special Forces. This page is not written for the unconverted. It will appear only as foolishness to them. Apply the principles only to your own life. Please RESTRAIN the impulse to call them fanatical until you have read the page in its entirety and have asked our Commander-in-Chief to show you what you need to do.

"Marvel not that I say to you, you MUST BE born again." ~John 3:7.

"An unconverted person does not accept anything from GOD, they see GOD's Words as foolishness...; the converted individual, on the other hand, is able to discern and judge rightly the Word of GOD." ~1 Corinthians 2:14.

"Therefore if anyone is in CHRIST, they are a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." ~2 Corinthians 5:17.

"You must give up your old way of living, with all of its corrupted habits. Your mind must be renewed by the SPIRIT, so that you can put on the new nature that was created GOD's way..." ~Ephesians 4:22-24.

"Be imitators of GOD as His beloved children..." ~Ephesians 5:1.

"If you are risen with CHRIST [in baptism, READ Romans 6:4], seek those things which are above... Set your affections on the things above, NOT on things of the earth." ~Colossians 3:1,2.

"Knowing this then, our old man [of the world] is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, so that from here on in we should not serve sin." ~Romans 6:6.

"For you were once in darkness, BUT NOW in the LORD you are light : Walk as children of light." ~Ephesians 5:8.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are of the world. If anyone love the world, the love of the Father is not in that person..." ~1John 2:15.

"...know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with GOD? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of GOD." ~James 4:4.

"If you continue in My Word, then you are My disciples for real." ~John 8:31.

These are NOT my words, they come from GOD through the men who physically wrote the Bible. They are saying to us with one voice, "When a person is really-trully converted they will no longer love what is of this world."

Study these verses carefully and prayerfully, dear fellow Warriors; NOTE that GOD's people are to be different from the rest of the world. "There is a way that seems right unto man, but the end thereof is the ways of death." ~Proverbs 14::14. We all know, that the only safety for those in GOD's army is to recognize the clever camouflages of the enemy of souls, who has a thousand disguised death traps planted all around us. In the scriptures the devil's assault weapons are referred to simply as 'the world.'

Furthermore, our beloved Commander Himself indicated that the things of the world will appear completely innocent in the eyes of us human beings, so He laid down the following eternal principle:

"For that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of GOD." ~Luke 16:15. Re-read this verse; read it in other translations:

"What seems outstanding to human beings is abhorrent in the sight of GOD." ~The Modern Language Bible [Zondervan Publishing House].

"What society sees and calls monumental, GOD sees through and calls monstrous." ~The Message [Eugene Petersonson, NavPress].

"...that which is so important to you means nothing to Him." ~The Clear Word [Jack Blanco, [Review & Herald Publishing House].

In other words, CHRIST is here saying that the most honored, respected things in our society will be the greatest enemy of His Truths. He is saying, if we are really-truly believers of Him, we will reject that which is accepted, approved of, and normal to the rest of the world!

Some of you who read what follows may be offended, and even click off this site, but we feel strongly that this subject must be spoken of, because somehow we Christians have this idea that any music that uses the names JESUS or GOD or HOLY SPIRIT, YAHWEH, CHRIST, LORD, YAHSHUA is "all right" to listen to. Very few understand that it is not just the words the music contains, but also what tempo and rhythm or beat it uses that makes it offensive to our Commander-in-Chief.

Another area where Christians MUST BE on guard is 'Who is singing or playing the music?' Why is this important? Can someone who is living 'in sin'...through adultery, drugs, alcohol, fornication [free sex], or whatever, truly be a fit representative of GOD? What about recording artists who use GOD's name as a curse, or other foul language; or who gamble? We know that the studied purpose of the enemy of souls is to make sin appear unobjectionable until GOD's people blend in so much with the world that no one can tell the difference.

Multiplied young and older people are being brought into the church under the hypnotizing beat of 'Christian or gospel' rock. But they are not following JESUS CHRIST. Very few understand the tremendous power music exercises over the conscious and subconscious of those listening to it. Time magazine described rock-and-roll as an 'hypnotic beat that works a strange kind of magic.' Christian and gospel rock have the same beat but with different words, and new-Christians do not believe that they will be influenced by the 'beat.'

But this approach is wrong, the true Christian will not say, "I am strong enough in my faith to listen to what I want!" but rather, "Is listening to this pleasing to the GOD whom I love?" GOD's Word leaves us in no doubt as to what kind of music GOD abhors. In Exodus 32:7 the LORD told Moses to go down the mountain because the Israelites had 'corrupted' themselves. Apparently the Israelites had gotted tired of waiting for Moses to come down off the mountain, so they had a party. Please notice, in verse 17 Joshua heard a noise coming from the camp, he thought it was enemies attacking. But Moses, in verse 18 says no, it wasn't of war but a party and the noise they heard was the music of the world.

The whole matter depends on one thing, how much we love our GOD and are willing to do those things that please Him. [John 8:29; Hebrews 11:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:1. When our love of JESUS is stronger than our love of the world and its things, then we will allow NOTHING to stand in our way of pleasing Him in everything.
