The Fourth Commandment.

"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy."
~Exodus 20:8.

Please, please PRAY, claiming GOD's promises for wisdom and spiritual discernment [James 1:5; 1 Kings 3:7,9], before reading this page. The forces of the evil one will do everything they can to hinder you from learning the truth, because they know that what JESUS said, "When you know the truth, it will set you free," is for REAL!

The majority of the words, texts, paragraphs, etc. are not mine, fellow Warriors, they are from our Commander-in-Chief, and world history. Freely accessible to read and research yourself with no taint of my personal beliefs and opinions.

Try not to hurry through the information, though it is long. Soak up our heavenly Father's words. If you read them aloud, it is easier to realize what He has said.

The first 8 Scripture texts are written out for you. As you read them, note carefully the relationship between the Father and His Son, and creation:

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD."

John 10:30 "I and My Father are One."

Colossians 1:15,16 "[JESUS] Who is the image of the invisible GOD... For by Him were all things created, that are heaven, and in the earth...all things were created by Him..."

Hebrews 1:2 "[GOD] hath in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom He also made the worlds..."

Genesis 2:1-3 "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished... And on the seventh day GOD ended His work and He rested... And GOD blessed the seventh day and sanctified it..."

Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy GOD..."

Luke 23:52-56 "This man went to Pilate, and begged the body of JESUS. ...He took it down and wrapped it in linen and laid it in a sepulcher... That day was the preparation and the Sabbath drew on. The women also ...beheld the sepulcher where His body was placed. And they went to their homes to prepare spices and ointments, but first they rested on the Sabbath according to the Commandment."

Mark 2:27,28 "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is LORD also of the Sabbath."

It will also be profitable for you, fellow Prayer Warriors, to look up the following verses and note what GOD is saying about His holy day. Write them out if that will help you gain insight into this most holy of days:

Exodus 16:4,22-29; Exodus 31:13,16,17; Leviticus 23:3; Deuteronomy 5:15; Deuteronomy 8:11; Isaiah 58:13; Isaiah 66:22,23; Ezekiel 20:12,20; Luke 4:16.

How do we absolutely know that God's holy day is not Sunday? Let me take you to Genesis 1:5, Mark 16:1,2; Luke 24:1, and John 20:15. Read these carefully and see if you can discover why. They are written out for you from the King James Version of the Bible.

Genesis 1:5 ..."The evening and the morning were the first day.

Mark 16:1,2 & 9 "And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary, mother of James and Salome, had brought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint Him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun. ...Now when JESUS was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene..."

Luke 24:1 "Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they [that is the women] came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices they had prepared..."

John 20:15  "JESUS said unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? She, supposing Him to be the gardener, saith unto Him, Sir, if thou have borne Him hence, tell me where...and I will take Him away."

We call CHRIST's resurrection day, Easter Sunday. GOD calls it the first day of the week. Notice also something very significant, the women who loved JESUS so much, would not even prepare His body for burial, why not?, because the coming of the Sabbath was too close. Instead, they waited to do it on the first day of the week, or Sunday. Also, as they rested on the Sabbath, JESUS did likewise, in the tomb. And, Mary's response was to someone she assumed was a gardener. Why would the gardener be in the garden except to work?

The following portion of this study of our Commander-in-Chief's most holy day comes from various historical sources. These are well documented and referenced. Though there are many, many more then what is quoted here, I pray that those I have chosen will be enough for you to be 'rooted and grounded' in GOD's Truth:

"It must be confessed that there is no law in the New Testament concerning the first day." ~McClintock and Strong, "Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological & Ecclesiastical Literature" Vol.9, p 196; article: "The Sabbath."

"There is no word, no hint in the New Testament about abstaining from work on Sunday...Into the rest of Sunday no Divine Law enters." ~Canon Eyton, "The Ten Commandments."

"You may search the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday..." ~Jame Cardinal Gibbons, "The Faith of Our Fathers" p.89.

"Modern Christians, who talk of keeping Sunday as a ' holy' day, as in the still extant 'Blue Laws' of colonial America, should know that as a 'holy' day of rest and cessation of labor and amusements Sunday was unknown to Jesus... It formed no tenet [teaching] of the primitive Church and became 'sacred' only in course of time." ~Walter Woodburn Hyde "Paganism to Christianity in the Roman Empire, 1946, p 257.

"There was and is a command to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day is not Sunday. ..There is no Scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week..." ~Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, "Baptist Manual." [from a paper read before a New York Ministers' Conference, November 13, 1893].

"Sunday is founded, not on Scripture, but on tradition... ~" The Catholic Record, September 17, 1893.

"If the Bible is the only guide for the Christian, then the Seventh-day Adventist is right in observing the Saturday of the Jew." ~Father Conway, The Question Box, p 179.

"The festival of Sunday, like all other festivals, was always only a human ordinance..." ~The History of the Christian Religion and Church, translated by H. J. Rose, p.186.

"In all their official books of instruction Protestants claim that their religion is based on the Bible and the Bible only, and they reject tradition... There is no place in the New Testament where it is distinctly stated that Christ changed the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. Yet all Protestants, except Seventh-day Adventists, observe the Sunday... Protestants are following tradition in observing Sunday." ~Our Sunday Visitor, June 11, 1950.

etc...

So much, much more could be written... What it all boils down to, though, is that GOD has given us freewill choice. We can walk in the futility of our wants and traditions, or we can walk even as our Commander-in-Chief walked here on this earth, completely obedient to His Commandments. JESUS is the way, the truth, and the life. [John 14:6]. Remember, we are not saved because we obey the Commandments, our obedience is simply the evidence of our salvation, because we now want to do all those things that please our GOD.

Last but not least, by any means, the Sabbath commandment occupies an interesting position in GOD's holy law as given in Exodus 20. If you will study it, you would notice that the fourth Commandment literally occupies a central position. There are 297 total words in the Law. The little word IS in the fourth precept, preceded by "the seventh day" and followed by "the Sabbath" is the very central word. One hundred forthy-eight words precede it, and 148 words follow. "The seventh day IS the Sabbath," GOD said. Not was, or will be, or ought to be, or may be; but an ever present, everlasting "IS" then, now, and for ever!
